What is an Externally Focused Church?
Jesus told Peter that upon his shoulders, the church would be established. Ever since, His church has been held up on the shoulders of passionate and faithful individuals. An externally focused church is a one in which you find the heart of Jesus beating within a gathering of externally focused people. It is the mission of the EFN to help churches identify and then support those passionate souls with resources to serve and save the lost and needy in their communities.
Externally focused churches are internally healthy, but also have a vision that transcends their gathering places to reach out to “the least of these.” They are highly creative in seeking new ways to become a part of the fabric of their communities in an effort to expose others to the tangible love of Jesus Christ. They are open to changing the way they think and operate to realize these goals. They seek enduring relationships with their neighbors in an effort to earn the right to be heard in the public square, where Jesus spent a good part of His time. They believe that good deeds pave the road over which the good news they have to share travels in a more holistic approach to ministry than preaching alone.
